Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

A few weeks back, one of the critics had a birthday. As has become a yearly tradition, we hit up the free birthday meal offers from local restaurants. One of the few times we go to chain restaurants.

On one Friday evening, after a long work week for the crew, we opted to go over to Hershey. Located downtown at the square sits a Houlihan’s on the first floor of the Hershey Press building.

While being a chain restaurant, this popular restaurant boasts it’s made from scratch dishes, burgers, and fusion fare. During high flow times there can be a lengthy wait for the dining room.

Tonight, our dinner was Heartland Chicken Salad ($15.75), Grilled Atlantic Salmon with mashed potatoes, carrots, and a cup of loaded potato soup ($23.50). The little critic got a kid’s chicken tenders and fries.

The salad comes with several sliced fried chicken tenders on top a hearty bed of lettuce, applewood smoked bacon, aged cheddar, spicy pecans, red bell peppers, tomatoes, red onions, croutons, garlic ranch. As the Seinfeld fans would say, it’s a big salad.

The salmon is an 8 oz portion basted with lemon dill butter, grilled, and served with a small scoop of mashed potatoes. Normally this meal comes with green beans, but they were out, and carrots were the substitute. Salmon is one of my favorite dishes. Tonight’s offering was slightly overcooked but not to the point that it couldn’t be enjoyed. The loaded potato soup is a creamy, rich appetizer that will definitely open your taste buds.

Our take: Houlihan’s offers a varied menu from burgers to salads, appetizers, and main dishes. Of the times we get here, consistency is the name of the game here. You can always count on a good meal here. We just recently learned that they now accept reservations so hopefully you won’t have to deal with the long waits anymore.

We give this place ????.
