Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

It was another day with just me and the little critic at home. But today the Lebanon Farmers Market was open so we went over for some shopping.

I didn’t intend to get lunch at the market but something caught my eye, as I was trying to distract the little critic from all the candy. There between the grills was a large, skewered pork piece that was getting shaved off by the chef.

Taqueria El Compadre is relatively new to the market and features a menu of authentic Mexican tacos, burritos and quesadillas serving breakfast and lunch. Orders are placed at the counter and are made to order while you wait.

My meal today was the Tacos Al Pastor ($11). This dish includes four tacos featuring hand-cut marinated pork served on corn tortillas with onion, pineapple, cilantro, and garnishes. You can add cheese for $1 more. The flavor of the marinated pork, combined with the sweet flavor from the pineapple, makes for a flavorful bite. Plenty of cilantro adorns the top. Each bite is as flavorful the whole way through.

Our take: Items are freshly made, and they take the time on presentation of the dish, even as a takeout order. Large portions for the price you pay. Your eye gravitates towards the pork by the grill and it makes you want to try some of that. It did for us, and hopefully for you, it will taste just as good as ours.

We give this place 🥓🥓🥓🥓.
