Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!
The critic crew was mulling over dinner ideas on a recent Friday evening. When this happens, one of my top choices is hibachi.
Since the pandemic, our local spot has been takeout only. So, for tonight, we will order our meal online and get takeout.
Located in the Target shopping center along Route 72 in North Cornwall Township, Kugo Japanese Restaurant offers a menu of hibachi, sushi, tempura, and teriyaki dishes. They have an online ordering system set up with an easy to navigate menu.

For our meal tonight we got the Crab Rangoon ($5.75) and Crazy Roll ($8.95) as appetizers. Our main dishes were Teriyaki shrimp & steak ($20.95) and Hibachi chicken & salmon ($20.95). The main dishes come with your choice of salad or clear soup.
The teriyaki dish came with plentiful portions of shrimp and medium steak. Even in a takeout container, they made this dish presentable. The teriyaki flavor hits the right note and is a delectable bite.
For our hibachi dish, it didn’t come with the same flare as when it’s made in front of you. But it sure does have the same flavor, and one that this critic has missed. The fried rice, veggies, and meat blend well, and a little added yum yum sauce enhanced the flavor even more. I was glad to be able to stretch this dish into three meals.
Our take: Kugo offers a takeout only menu which is easily ordered online. The hibachi dishes have a flavor to them that we just love. Even veggie haters will love the hibachi veggies. The sushi menu offers some variety and comes well prepared. We miss them being open for dine in service, and I’ve gotten bad at catching broccoli in my mouth. Hopefully that will change soon.
