The Lebanon football team began play in Section Two of the Lancaster-Lebanon League on Friday night against the Muhlenberg Muhls at Lebanon Alumni Stadium. Both teams entered the game with identical 0-3 overall records.

A successful fake punt by Muhlenberg in the fourth quarter helped the Muhls secure the winning margin in what had evolved into a defensive struggle, 13-7. Muhlenberg’s Aaden Lopez notched the decisive touchdown on a five-yard run.

Despite the result, Lebanon was competitive throughout. Entering the contest, the Cedars had been outscored by an average margin of 40 points in their previous three setbacks.

The loss also extended Lebanon’s overall losing skein to 26 games, a streak that dates back to the 2020 campaign.

Lebanon head coach Frank Isenberg stated: “We had to start an inexperienced QB due to an emergency situation. Paul Trace was informed the night before the game he would be the starting QB. He had only seen action as a wide receiver before.”

The Cedars spent much of the game with their backs to the wall deep in their own territory. Lebanon was unable to generate a great deal of offense, as both the run — 19 carries for 69 yds — and passing game — 11 completions from 19 attempts and 43 yds — stagnated.

Lebanon tied the score at seven on Kai Rivera’s short second-quarter touchdown plunge and Derek Infante’s successful extra point. The score remained 7-7 until the fourth quarter.

“Even though our QB did his best he couldn’t find his rhythm and the lack of offense put pressure on our defense,” said Isenberg. “Both the team and I are proud of his effort.”

Muhlenberg grabbed a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter, on Mike Miller’s 30-yard scoring strike from Lopez.

The Muhls outgained the Cedars 240 total yards to 80.

Next week, Lebanon will travel to Exeter Township. Exeter was last years L-L Section Town Champion and is undefeated so far this season.
