Editor’s Note: Michael and Nicole Borrell review Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. The couple aims to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to partner with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

I had a day out with the little critic, and I have been in the mood for a hoagie. With the weather being nice outside, we had a day of playgrounds and parks. So, for us, lunch will be on-the-go.

We decided to stop in downtown Lebanon to a newly reopened sandwich shop. Gus Deraco’s Italian Sandwiches is located on the 700 block of Cumberland Street, across from Lebanon City Hall.

They offer a full breakfast menu in addition to a full Italian sandwich menu with an inside dining area for those not grabbing their fare to go.

Our selection today was the large Little Gus Hoagie ($12). This sandwich comes with capocollo, soppressata, prosciutto, genoa salami, cooked salami, pepperoni, sharp provolone, oil/vinegar mixture. We added L, T, O, sweet peppers, and extra mayo on a soft roll.

This sandwich comes with loaded with the extra meats layered on top of the sandwich. We tucked the meat into the roll for easier eating. The selection of meats, especially the soppressata, stood out with its dry seasoning. The large amount of meat does detract from the fixings, as we were unable to taste our sweet peppers until the very end. We enjoyed this as a two-meal sandwich, even the little critic enjoyed her bites.

Our take: This sandwich shop offers a wide array Italian sandwiches, salads and much more, including breakfast. The meat is freshly sliced on site and its quality meats that are used. Not sure if this is the norm, but our sandwich took close to 40 minutes to be ready. They also host events such as music at their venue on certain evenings.

We give this place 🥓🥓🥓🥓.

Be on the lookout as it’s time to declare our next “Wars” series. What will it be?
