About 20 customers of the West Cornwall Township Municipal Authority can expect to be without water for several hours on Monday, Aug. 19, during replacement of a valve on a water main.

The valve near 42 S. Mills Road is one of two defective valves that interrupted water service for the authority’s 340 customers for about three hours on Friday, July 19, said Jeff Steckbeck, authority engineer, at a township supervisors’ meeting Monday.

A new water valve has already been installed near the one that failed near 100 S. Zinns Mill Road when the new water main for Apartments at 419 was connected on July 19, Steckbeck said.

Affected property owners will be notified of Monday’s shut-off by an automated telephone call — provided the authority has customers’ correct phone numbers. To reach customers, the authority relies upon billing information provided by customers.

“If people’s phone numbers have changed, they need to email the authority or give us a call and let us know,” said David Bradley, authority water operator, Tuesday.

In other business, supervisors asked Steckbeck to investigate options for slowing motorists on North Zinns Mill Road between Main Street in Quentin and state Route 72.

“Speeding on North Zinns Mill Road has always been an issue — people are doing 50 to 60 mph,” said supervisor Dennis Tulli.

Discussed were the possible installations of a solar-powered speed limit sign or a flashing sign to indicate the multiple golf cart crossings.

Supervisors learned from township solicitor Eric Gibson that tax-exempt status was approved for the property they recently purchased at 67 W. Main St.

“We’re taking steps one at a time — there are lots of options that we can look at for how to use the property,” said supervisor David Lloyd in response to a request for an update on that property.

First up is curb and sidewalk work and then supervisors will look at stormwater runoff from the property at the corner of North Zinns Mill Road and Main Street, Lloyd said.

“As for the building itself, we are currently using it for storage,” he added.

As township engineer, Steckbeck reported that 2024 paving projects were awarded to:

  • Asphalt Maintenance Solutions LLC ($20,102.50) for crack sealing on assorted roads.
  • H&K Group Inc. ($37,250.00) for base repairs on Starner Road.
  • JNS Paving and Excavating ($98,880.00) for Main Street curb and sidewalk, draining on South Zinns Mill Road, and drain pipe replacement and tree removal on Locust Street.

West Cornwall Township supervisors meet at 73 S. Zinns Mill Road on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Sept. 9. These meetings are open to the public and do not require registration
