Lebanon County elections director Sean Drasher is warning the public that text messages being sent to local residents and purporting to be about voter registration are not legitimate.
“People in the County have been getting these text messages, as well as others that look similar, and they are NOT FROM US,” said Drasher in an email to LebTown on Friday. “They are not official elections messages of any kind.”
Drasher said that the links should not be clicked. He described the “really bad” text messages as smishing, a mashup of SMS and phishing.
Residents who want to check their registration status should visit vote.pa.gov, where they can look up their own status. Voter registration status can be checked directly here.
“There is no reason to call our offices unless they find something amiss specifically at that .gov website,” said Drasher.
