After a long week between work and the little critic’s activity schedule, it was time for an easy Friday evening dinner.
We decided we wanted to have a little nostalgic feeling tonight. We saw a local spot had done a little remodeling and was back open again. So, we made our way up I-78 and got off at the infamous Grimes exit and made our way to Kauffman’s Bar-B-Que Restaurant Inc.
This restaurant offers a cafeteria style ordering line with dining room seating, self-service drinks, and a salad bar along with its full menu of chicken, sandwiches, and weekly specials. They also have a ice cream counter for dessert afterwards.

For our dinner this evening we selected the ¼ chicken platter with potato filling ($11.15), chicken croquettes with potato filling ($13.95), and the child’s chicken with French fries and applesauce ($9.05).
The chicken is juicy with a crispy skin and a delicious flavor. Whether you get a leg or breast, the chicken will be enjoyable. The potato filling with the savory chicken gravy is the right choice to go with this meal.

The chicken croquettes are fried golden brown and served with their chicken gravy if you choose. We opted to smother them for full enjoyment. With the inclusion of the salad bar, you will leave feeling fully satisfied.

Our take: This local staple has been around for a long time, and the meals are consistently good and value priced. The line can get long during peak times, that must mean the food is worth it. If you go in the warm months, the mini golf course is a fun play. The little critic loves the chicken bar-b-que, and we do too.
