Contracts for two of West Cornwall Township’s five planned public works projects for 2025 were awarded by supervisors Monday, May 12.
Martin Paving had the low bid of $48,412.30 for oil and chip sealing of Starner Road, and H&K Group won the contract for base repair and overlay paving of North Cornwall Road, west of Zinns Mill, with a low bid of $$44,150.50.
Both projects came in under engineering estimates, said township engineer Jeff Steckbeck.
Drawings for the project involving curbs, sidewalks, and drainage at North Zinns Mill Road/Main Street in Quentin are under review by PennDOT. Once those are approved, PennDOT will issue a highway occupancy permit, and the project can be bid, Steckbeck said.
Quotes for work on inlets on Birch Street in Mount Gretna Heights and North Lebanon Street will be on supervisors’ June agenda, Steckbeck said.
In other business, Steckbeck reported that two subdivision/land development plans are still in the review cycle by Lebanon County Planning Department, which provides official reviews for the township.
The plan for Cavalry at Quentin on the site of the former Quentin Riding Club is undergoing its fourth round of revisions, Steckbeck said. Proposed for the site at the intersection of state routes 419 and 72 is a mix of residential and commercial lots including a Wawa gas station and convenience store.
Also under review by Lebanon County Planning is Alden West, a development of 48 duplexes and part of Alden Place. That plan has been granted a six-month extension as a permit for a bridge from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is needed, Steckbeck said.
Supervisors discussed the possibility of taking legal action against the owners of a property on Zinns Mill Road. The owners have been notified the property violates the township’s property maintenance code but have not taken action to correct the violations, said supervisor Dennis Tulli.
Township solicitor Eric Gibson will have for supervisors’ consideration in June documents to have the property designated as abandoned.
Supervisors held an executive session on Monday, April 21, to discuss personnel and township legal matters. A second executive session was held after Monday’s meeting.
West Cornwall Township supervisors meet at 73 S. Zinns Mill Road on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Monday, June 9. These meetings are open to the public and do not require registration.
