Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!
Welcome to what might be our most anticipated War to date, Lebanon Valley Diner Wars. Four entrants from across the Valley will compete to be declared the winner of Best Diner in The Valley.

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including menu offerings, quality of food, level of service, and ambience. Diners are a special place where you can get comfort food in a homey environment. For this War we will be having dinners at each diner.
To begin this War, we start at what might be one of the most popular in the Valley. Located along State Route 72 in Ebenezer is Heisey’s Diner. This stand-alone diner has a retro diner front, a larger dining room, and a bar/dining room in the back.

Our dinner for this evening was the Broiled Crab Cake ($17.95) with potato filling and broccoli salad, the Heisey’s Boom Boom Burger ($8.95), and the kids Baked Ham with pineapple slices ($5.75).

The broiled crab cake comes homemade with a moist makeup and plenty of crab filling. The potato filling tastes like a what mom makes. Even as a reheat, it was delicious. As a seafood diner dish, this could be one to satisfy that crave.

The boom boom burger comes as a thin burger with a good char. The sesame seed bun is larger than the burger and makes for a higher bun to burger ratio. The composition of the burger was well done with the cheese over top the grilled onions and plenty of boom boom sauce that seeps out at the right points during eating.

Our little critic thoroughly enjoyed both slices of her baked ham and the pineapple that adorns it. This dish came with one side and our little critic chose the potato filling… good choice! Considering how fast she ate it up; she might have already picked her winner.

Special props to our server Emilee this night!
Did we just eat at the best diner in the Valley?
Next, we will travel to our three other entrants: E & E Diner, Esther’s, and The Hearth. After which, we will announce our winner.
