Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to what might be our most anticipated War to date, Lebanon Valley Diner Wars. Four entrants from across the Valley will compete to be declared the winner of Best Diner in The Valley.

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including menu offerings, quality of food, level of service, and ambience. Diners are a special place where you can get comfort food in a homey environment. For this War we will be having dinners at each diner.

We continue this War out in the northwest corner of the Valley. Located along Route 22 sits Esther’s Restuarant. This stand-alone diner from outside looks like the old fashioned truck stop diner. Inside it has a dining room as well as a counter seating.

Our dinner for this evening was the Homemade Roast Turkey ($13.75) with potato filling and tossed salad and the Homemade Chicken Croquettes ($14) with potato filling and tossed salad.

The roast turkey comes with a mix of white and dark meat served on top of stuffing and with a side of cranberries. The portion size is large with a natural savory flavor. The gravy needed some extra salt and the stuffing was robust and gave that home style flavor.

The chicken croquettes came golden brown and packed with Bell & Evans chicken. The filling is cohesive yet tender, with bits of shredded or finely chopped chicken throughout.

Our service was great and the food came out super quick.

Did we just eat at the best diner in the Valley?

Next, we will travel to our two other entrants: E & E Diner and The Hearth. After that, we will make our decision.
