Doug’s Legacy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aids children in need of a prosthetic. The organization was founded in memory of Doug Meyer, who lost his leg in a farming accident at age 10. Doug passed away in 2021, but through this organization, his legacy lives on.

Some movie nights will be themed, and we will encourage participants to get into the spirit of the film by dressing up or adding fun embellishments. This is for all ages!

In this all-day experience, Jean-Paul Benowitz leads participants in this nationally recognized program. We will use Mount Gretna as our “text” as we walk about and explore the history, culture, context, setting, geography, natural beauty, architecture, and “experience” of Mount Gretna, discovering the differences among and within the communities of Chautauqua, Campmeeting, Kauffman Heights, Timber Hills, Stoberdale, Conewago Hill, and other areas of Mount Gretna.

Theorem Painting Class With Peggy Allen-Geesaman at Isaac Meier Homestead

Early American Shaker Tree of Life, historic theorem stencil painting, beginner’s level.
Discover the rich history and techniques of theorem painting, a cherished early American art form that flourished in colonial New England through the mid-1800s.
In this workshop, you will recreate “The Tree of Life,” an early American symbol circa 1854 that embodies the spirit of the Shaker community. Guided by an experienced instructor, Peggy Allen-Geesaman, you will master the art of applying oil paint with brushes to a cotton velveteen fabric board using a series of pre-cut stencils.
This captivating process allows you to create a portrait that radiates the allure of hand-painted artistry. The workshop is meticulously crafted to guarantee that every participant, irrespective of their skill level, can successfully complete and take home their own theorem painting. We will have a practice session before the actual painting.

Nickolas Sieber’s Traditional Jazz and Ragtime Festival at Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook

Nickolas Sieber, 25, of Elizabethtown, is pleased to announce his Traditional Jazz & Ragtime Festival is slated for Saturday, Aug. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook, which is located at 58 Church Road, Manheim.
Sieber’s festival will include performances from renowned artists, Miss Maybell and Charlie Judkins, duet, of NYC, Ramona Baker, pianist, of NYC, Gavin Rice, banjoist, of Rochester, NY, and the Blackbird Society Orchestra, of Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to music, professional dancers, Roddy Caravella and Gretchen Fenston, will lead a 1920s dance lesson of the Peabody. A social dance of fox trots, tangos, swing, and more will run throughout the course of the festival.
Off the dance floor, the excitement of a 1920s lawn party will continue with pre-war car rides, a croquet tournament, fashion displays, and special guest R.W. Tintypes offering authentic 19th-century tintype photography sittings. Trinity Lutheran Church of Colebrook will prepare the bill of fare available for purchase.
“It has been my passion to share America’s rich history from the turn of the 20th century through WWII with my younger generation. Many people do not recognize that this was an era of exciting changes in music, fashion, architecture, art, and innovations. From hot new dances with jazz music to the thrill of the automobile, the Machine Era was a thrilling time to live in! Now, thanks to my festival, people will have an opportunity to experience the attractions of this forgotten generation!”

Swing Dance Classes With Rhythm Lounge at Hall of Philosophy

The Rhythm Lounge is a local collective with the goal of bringing you some of the best dance instructors, choreographers, and genuinely fun and kind people who know how to teach and work consistently on improving your experience on the dance floor. This class is for all levels.
Carla Crowen has been teaching Lindy Hop and other forms of vintage swing dancing for over 20 years. She has traveled the globe as an invited instructor and artist of swing dancing in order to share her passion and knowledge. She is currently the creator and director of The Rhythm Lounge (Lindy Central) and is working hard to cultivate a strong community of dance in the central Pennsylvania area. Lebanon County Suicide Prevention Task Force’s 4th Annual Big Bingo Event at Sacred Heart Church Social Hall

The Lebanon County Suicide Prevention Task Force is excited to host its fourth annual all-cash bingo! Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., with bingo starting at 1 p.m. This event is the Task Force’s kick-off for Suicide Prevention Month, which is nationally recognized each year during the month of September.
In addition to the regular bingo games, there will be a 50/50 jackpot, specials, and raffles. And of course, the kitchen will be open!
