Cornwall-Lebanon School District announced this week the sudden passing of 12th-grade student Damarius Nalik Galarza.

According to a statement by superintendent Philip Domencic, Galarza passed away Saturday night as a result of a “medical event.”

“On behalf of our entire school district community, we extend our deepest sympathy to Damarius’ family and friends during this very difficult time,” said Domencic.

According to his obituary, Galarza was a Cedar Crest High School honor roll student who would have graduated this spring. He is survived by his mother Michelle L. Swartswelder Franco of Lebanon; his sister, Aliaza Morales; maternal grandparents Ronald Jr. and Kathy Light; niece Nathalia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16, at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. Viewing will begin at 4 p.m. until the start of the service, scheduled for 6 p.m.

The family has launched a fundraiser to cover funeral expenses.

“The loss has left our family heartbroken, and we are trying to find our way through this unimaginable pain,” said Franco in the fundraiser description. “My son was always willing to help anyone, and his kindness touched so many lives.”

“We want to honor his memory and give him the farewell he deserves.”
