The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors approved a proposal for new equipment purchases at its Jan. 20 meeting.

New equipment purchases approved for the township include a 3-foot Gradall bucket estimated at $7,500, a 20-inch hoe pack at $7,000, and a 24-inch milling head at $24,000. Road foreman Bryan Weaver said the milling head can be used to complete road patch repairs, leading to savings in the long-run.

Supervisors also approved the purchase of a township truck for approximately $54,000 to replace a 2014 truck, as well as a snow plow for $7,300.

The annual Pennsylvania State Police traffic and crime report listed 858 total calls for service in Jackson Township for 2025. This marked a 13% increase from the 756 calls in 2024, which Sgt. Robert Maher attributed largely to the South Ramona Road bridge detour and increased police presence there.

The report listed 274 traffic citations, 154 total criminal offenses, and 115 total crashes. There were 38 arrests, 35 injury crashes, 3 DUIs, and zero fatal crashes.

When chairman Thomas Houtz asked if there have been any crimes that have changed that he is concerned about, Sgt. Maher said fraud – with 19 recorded in 2025 – was what stuck out. State troopers led a community education session in Myerstown last year regarding fraud protection and prevention, and they can provide similar opportunities in the future by request.

In other business, supervisors:

  • Granted approval for a $3,000 quote for tree stump grinding on Hergelrode Road.
  • Approved a 2026 traffic signal maintenance proposal. Preventative traffic signal maintenance totaling $1,725 will be completed by C.M. High Inc. at the following intersections: U.S. Route 422 and Wintersville Road, Route 422 and state Route 645, Route 422 and Ramona Road, Route 422 and Dutchway Drive/Owl Creek Drive, Weavertown Road and Royers Road warning flasher, and Elco Drive and Weavertown Road school flashers.

The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors will meet next on Monday, Feb. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at 60 N. Ramona Road. The public is welcome to attend.
