The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors approved a bid of $257,121 to Woodland Contractors for phase two of the Wheatland Woods Park project at a May 4 meeting.
The bid was the lowest of eight total bids submitted, said engineer Steve Sherk. Jackson Township received a $250,000 grant through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program for the second phase of developing Wheatland Woods Park.
Work is tentatively set to begin the end of May on phase two, which will include a basketball court and pickleball courts with fencing, paved walking paths, and landscaping.
Supervisors also approved a payment of $45,375.30 to Woodland Contractors for their work on phase one of Wheatland Woods. Sherk said the remaining balance will be $18,921.29. The first phase of the park was not covered by a grant.
In other business, council:
- Began discussing a potential ordinance regarding public water hook-up requirements and agreed to obtain additional information from the water authority before proceeding.
- Authorized proceeding with condemning property at 50 Martin Road due to its status as a dangerous structure.
- Approved minor subdivision plans for Dale and Jolene Zimmerman and granted a time extension for Dean Nolt Ag Operation land development plan.
Jackson Township Board of Supervisors will meet next on May 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the township building, 60 N. Ramona Road.
On May 20 at 6 p.m., a public meeting regarding the 22-acre Whitmoyer Laboratories Superfund site – now the location of Jackson Recreational Park – is scheduled at the township building.
Additionally, a zoning hearing board meeting for Allen Distribution is planned for May 21. Allen Distribution received a $1 million Multimodal Transportation Fund grant in February 2025 to build three rail sidings serving a proposed 625,000-square-foot warehouse at 655 King St.
