Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will host its 44th annual Memorial Day ceremony in the Pennsylvania Veterans Memorial on Sunday, May 24, starting at 2 p.m.
The event will be held rain or shine, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This year’s program is cosponsored by the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Memorial Council and the Disabled American Veterans, Department of Pennsylvania.
Cemetery director John Spruyt will welcome the audience. USMC Sgt. Major (ret) Joseph A. Staudt will deliver the keynote address. Memorial Council vice president Joseph Snyder will serve as the master of ceremonies.
Parking will be at MSC Industrial Supply Co., 100 MSC Drive, Jonestown, just east of Fort Indiantown Gap. There will be a shuttle bus to and from the memorial.
Guests entering from the west should detour around Fort Indiantown Gap on Biddle Drive, then take Quartermaster Road back to Fisher Avenue. There will be limited handicapped parking at the cemetery itself.
The Avenue of Flags display of casket flags donated by veterans’ families at the cemetery is partially disrupted because of an expansion project. State, territory, and service flags are also being flown. Once back in place, the display will be flown through Veterans Day week.
