Drivers in Lebanon County should prepare for a series of nighttime detours as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation moves ahead with a resurfacing project on Route 72 (Quentin Road) and U.S. Route 322.
Weather permitting, southbound Route 72 will close nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Thursday, July 30, through Thursday, Aug. 6. The closure runs from the Route 322 East split to Spring Hill Lane, the entrance to the Spring Hill Acres development.
The detours, which affect North Cornwall and West Cornwall townships and Cornwall Borough, are being put in place to allow crews to complete drainage work.
Southbound Route 72 traffic will be detoured using Route 117, Pinch Road, and Cider Press Road. Motorists traveling west on Route 322 toward southbound Route 72 should continue west to Route 117, then follow the southbound Route 72 detour.
PennDOT noted the work may be rescheduled if inclement weather occurs.
The broader project includes base replacement, milling, guiderail updates, drainage replacements, sign and overhead signing replacement, and pavement marking updates. Work extends along Route 72 from the Lancaster County line in West Earl Township to Rocherty Road in North Cornwall Township, as well as portions of Route 322 near the four-lane divided highway section shared with Route 72.
Most work will take place overnight, though some daytime work is expected. Drivers can also anticipate single-lane restrictions and additional overnight ramp and roadway detours within the project limits. PennDOT said updated notices will be issued before any future detours take effect.
Pennsy Supply Company Inc. of Harrisburg is the contractor on the $7,009,000 project, which is expected to be completed by Dec. 3.
