The East Hanover Township Board of Supervisors briefly discussed a developer request to provide sewer to 10244 Allentown Blvd during a 15-minute meeting July 27.
According to the minutes of a special meeting held by the board July 17, the developer requested that the township consider accepting dedication of a sewer collection system and wastewater treatment plant to serve the approximately 44-acre high-density residential property, which is currently not served by public water or sewer. This comes after the developer’s extension request to the East Hanover Township Dauphin County Municipal Authority was denied.
The minutes, formatted as a Q&A with the township’s wastewater engineer Brad Youst, note that multiple details remain unclear. The developer only submitted a request for sewer, not water, and if further pursued, a rate study would need conducted to determine projected costs and revenues.
As of now, the township does not have a wastewater treatment plant nor staff. The developer has offered to pay costs to revise the township’s Act 537 Plan and studies required, as well as construction costs.
In the high-density residential zoning district, townhouses are permitted if the development is served by public water and sewer. The surrounding area contains multiple other high-density residential plots, which the July 17 minutes note should also be served by any potential treatment plant.
Solicitor Colleen Gallo said Monday that no action is being considered at this time as the township is still looking into the matter.
“There’s a lot of unanswered questions that we need time to consider,” said supervisor Ed Heagy.
In other news, the board:
- Unanimously agreed adopting a franchise agreement with Patriot Cable.
- Unanimously accepted a quote from Shank Door for garage door operators in the pole shed for $4,150.
- Unanimously agreed to seek bids for line painting.
- Unanimously approved the full reduction in financial security for 19 Mount Laurel Lane of $18,565.38.
- Unanimously approved a senior workout day in the H.M. Levitz Memorial Park lodge in September.
- Unanimously approved minutes and reviewed reports.
The East Hanover Township Board of Supervisors meets the last Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. These meetings are open to the public and do not require prior registration.
