The Community Health Council of Lebanon County will hold a special Summer Point-in-Time Count on the evening of Aug. 6, sending teams of volunteers across the county to connect with people experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers will check in at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 S. 12th St., Lebanon, at 5:45 p.m. Dinner and a brief training session will follow at 6:15 p.m. Canvassing begins at 6:30 p.m. and wraps up by 8:30 p.m.

A Point-in-Time Count estimates homelessness in a community by tallying people who are unsheltered on a specific night. The snapshot helps communities measure progress in reducing homelessness and connect people to services and resources.

It will be the county’s third summer count. According to a news release, the local coalition added the warm-weather count to build deeper connections with residents experiencing homelessness. The federally required winter count often falls on a bitterly cold night, making it harder to reach people in need, according to the council.

No experience is required to volunteer. Local professionals will train and support participants.

Individuals and teams must sign up by Saturday, Aug. 1, at communityhealthcouncil.com/homelessness/pit-count.
