Students from ELCO High School participated in a special brook trout release event yesterday morning at Millcreek Rod & Gun Club in Newmanstown, culminating a seven month “Trout in the Classroom” program.

ELCO’s participation in the program was made possible through a partnership between Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited.

Equipped with trout eggs, trout feed, and ample training and resources, the nearly 30 students who participated in the event actually raised the brook trout themselves over the past seven months. Throughout the year, students monitored water conditions in their classroom aquariums, with cold water conservation being a primary focus of the water and wildlife curriculum.

Deer Park Natural Spring Water served as the school’s program partner.
