May 15 is Peace Officers Memorial Day in the United States, and each year this date is commemorated with a memorial service on the steps of the Lebanon County Municipal Building.
This year’s speakers included Palmyra Police Chief Andrew Winters, Lebanon Mayor Sherry Capello, and State Senator Mike Folmer (R-Senate District 48).

Wednesday’s service honored Lebanon Police Chief Aaron McCord (EOW 3/28/1890), Lebanon Police Department Patrolman Cyrus Shaeffer (EOW 2/14/1903), Reading Police Department Patrolman Michael H. Wise, II (6/5/2004), and South Londonderry Police Department Sgt. Sheryl A. Pierce (EOW 9/14/2013).
The service is a part of National Police Week which is observed each year during the week of May 15.
President John F. Kennedy signed the proclamation that designated May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day in 1962.
