LebTown features a different Lebanon County pet each Friday to help us enter the weekend with the best vibes possible.

The Pet of the Week will sometimes be a local furbaby who already lives in a happy Lebanon County home. On other occasions, the column will spotlight an animal that’s available for adoption through a local shelter and is seeking a forever family.

This week, meet Beauty and Mikey โ€ฆ a sad story looking for a happy ending!

This bonded pair was brought to the Humane Society of Lebanon County back in April, after their owner died.

“What an upheaval in their little lives,” a shelter spokesperson said. However, their story “remains unclear.”

“They apparently lived outside for a large part of their life โ€ฆ then possibly in a garage being taken care of daily,” the spokesperson noted. “Beauty bares the scars of some hard times. She has a damaged eye from a serious infection at some point in her life. Also, when she arrived, she sounded very ill with a respiratory infection. She was isolated โ€ฆ treated with various antibiotics and even received a chest x-ray and a visit to a local vet to confirm it wasn’t something more.”

Beauty was diagnosed with asthma, a lung condition that “currently just needs watched. She is a happy girl, reserved and shy, but we understand why.”

Mikey is “a super sweet boy” and is estimated to be 4 or 5 years old. “Beauty appears older but her exact age is hard to determine with her lack of teeth,” the shelter rep explained. “She eats just fine and loves to watch birds out the window.”โ€จ
Although the relationship between the two cats is hard to determine, it’s thought they might be mother and son. What is clear, however, is that they don’t like to be apart.

While Beauty was being treated, Mikey was placed on the adoption floor. “While separated, Mikey began to rip his fur out and appeared very stressed. He was taken off the adoption floor and placed back with Beauty until we could make a better diagnosis of her health.”โ€จโ€จNow they’re both available for adoption, but only as a pair. “Mikey is Beauty’s protector. He looks out for her while they both reside in the Cat Community Room.”

The Humane Society is looking for “an amazing family who will give these two decompression time โ€ฆ understanding of their known and unknown past, consistency and most of all, unconditional love. Please help us find these two precious souls a new beginning.”
