LebTown features a different Lebanon County pet each Friday to help us enter the weekend with the best vibes possible.
Our Pet of the Week sometimes is a local furbaby who already lives in a happy Lebanon County home. Other times the weekly column will spotlight an animal that’s available for adoption through a local shelter and is seeking a forever family.
This week, meet adoptable Johnny and Jane!
“They’re holding onto each other while they wait,” Taylor, from the Humane Society of Lebanon County, said in an email to LebTown.
“Some dogs lean on people when life gets scary. These two lean on each other!” Taylor said. “Johnny and Jane were found together in the beginning of June, and the kind people who found them cared for them while hoping their family would come looking. When no one did, they made their way to us.”
Johnny is a shar-pei and Jane is a mixed-breed pup. They are estimated at around 3 years old.
“Shelter life has been a lot for these sweet dogs,” Taylor said. “They’re understandably nervous after everything they’ve been through, and while they’re still settling into all the changes, they find the most comfort in staying close to one another.
“These two are most comfortable with each other and are still adjusting to all the recent changes in their lives. At this time, we think they’d do their best settling into a home together without other dogs. They could have the potential to live with a calm and independent dog with slow, proper introductions. They both have the potential to live with a dog-savvy cat with proper introductions.”
Taylor said the dynamic duo is “simply looking for someone who can offer them a quiet home, a little patience, and the chance to adjust together! Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a dog is the time to feel safe. They also appear to be housebroken and have kept their kennel clean during their stay with us as well as while with the finders!
“We know the right person is out there. Someone who understands that the best relationships are sometimes the ones that take a little time. … If you have room in your heart and home for two dogs who have never had to face the world alone, we’d love you to meet them!”
Taylor said Johnny and Jane are available now through the shelter’s Foster-to-Adopt program, which means they can head home with their future family while awaiting their upcoming spay/neuter surgeries.
“Once their procedures are complete, their adoptions can be finalized!” Taylor explained. “In the meantime, these sweet pups get the best of both worlds: a comfy home together, lots of love, and the chance to start their happily-ever-after’s before it’s officially official!”
If you think Johnny and Jane could be a fit for your household, please fill out the adoption application online at lebanonhumane.org or call the Humane Society at 717-628-1369 for more information.
