Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to the second season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley Pizza Wars. There will be a total of 8 entrants. Round 1 will be head to head. The final round will be between the four remaining places to be declared the winner of Best Pizza in The Valley.

Our judgement will be based upon several factors including taste, texture, sauce, crust, and overall critic impression.

After a tough first round comparing pepperoni slices, the winners of the first round were judged on Sicilian slices. Our first round winners were Mancino’s Pizza & Catering, Pizza Town II, J & S Pizza, and Tony’s Roma.

Now for our take on each venue’s Sicilian slice.

At Mancino’s, the slice came with a crunchy crust. The sauce had a sweetness that paired well with its cheese blend. A hearty slice that would quench a pizza craving.

Pizza Town II had a slice that was very thick and doughy. There was a light crisp to the crust. The sauce was a nice savory blend which let the tomato base shine through. The cheese is loaded on there and has a great bite.

J & S was a nice thick selection that had a rigid, crisp bite. The subtle sweetness of the sauce was strongly evident. A very tasty blend of cheese adorned the top but could have used some more.

Tony’s Roma had the most appealing smell out of the four. A pleasant blend of doughy crust, a flavorful sauce, and an appropriate amount of cheese. The robust flavor sat well with the critic crew.

Our final selection:

This was not an easy season for judging. We had some great slices from across the Valley this season. But for the critic crew, it came down to a close race between Pizza Town II and Tony’s Roma. We felt these two had the best pepperoni slices as well.

But we must select a winner. And our winner is…

Congratulations to Pizza Town Il! The quality of the slice, crispy crust, savory sauce, and freshness of ingredients made these slices standout for the critic crew.

We hope you enjoyed this second season of Pizza Wars. We encourage everyone to try the slices we have tried; you won’t be disappointed!
