PennDOT said that a detour around the state Route 501 bridge over Tulpehocken Creek in Myerstown Borough is set to begin June 23.
The detour is scheduled to run 119 days, with a planned opening date of Oct. 20.
There is a chance coordination with utilities will push those dates out, but as of now PennDOT’s current plan is June 23 to Oct. 20.
Myerstown Borough shared a graphic showing the planned detour route, which will use state routes 897 and 422. The borough said that Route 501 will be closed to local traffic only through Myerstown.

The project will include minimal widening with 7-foot sidewalks on both sides, PennDOT previously told LebTown. Built in 1940, the state-owned bridge has an overall condition rating of a 4 on a scale of 1 to 9, according to PennDOT data.
All work is expected to be completed Dec. 3.
Lobar Site Development, Inc., of Dillsburg, PA, is the contractor on this $2,074,301 project.
Last year, PennDOT acquired a small portion of land (.033 acres) from the borough’s recreation area for the bridge project.
