A 111-year-old Lebanon social club is closed indefinitely after a two-alarm fire caused “substantial damage” shortly after midnight Sunday.
The Lebanon Maennerchor Club at 301 E. Mifflin St. posted the announcement to social media Sunday morning. “We will be permanently closed until further notice,” a Facebook message reads. “An overnight fire in the main bar area caused substantial damage.”
Firefighters were dispatched to the club at North 3rd and East Mifflin streets at 12:49 a.m., according to the Lebanon County Department of Emergency Services website. A second alarm went out at 1 a.m.
Crews remained on the scene for nearly three hours, according to several local news reports.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Jim Purcell posted on Facebook that the fire caused “extensive fire and water damage in the main bar building. We are still in the early stages of gathering information and what steps need to be taken to move forward.”
According to the club’s Facebook page, Maennerchor is a social club “with a modern feel” featuring a large bar area, 11 TVs, a pool table, three electronic dart boards, and skill games. “Maennerchor” means “men’s chorus” in German and is the name given to German social clubs, primarily in Pennsylvania.
