Students and faculty at Ebenezer Elementary School in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District celebrated America’s sesquicentennial “in grand style” on Wednesday, June 3.
According to an email from principal Greg Fulkerson, the entire school – 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, plus their teachers and staff – gathered outside at the flagpole to start the school day by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and listening to patriotic songs. Students were encouraged to wear red, white, and blue clothing and swag to mark the event.
Students also enjoyed activities such as finalizing a class parade float and class flag, snacking on red and blue snow cones visiting with the Keystone Kid Mascot, the official mascot and chief storyteller for America250PA.
They also could choose patriotic gear from the “Swag Cart” before parading around the loop in front of the school. Parents and neighbors were invited to watch the parade and cheer them on.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event to celebrate,” Fulkerson said in the email. “We want our students to have pride in their country and to be thankful to have what we have, and this event accomplishes that goal.”
