Poet Laureate: An American Melancholy: William Stafford at Hall of Philosophy
10-11 a.m., Friday, July 10 | 212 Gettysburg Ave., Mount Gretna
For almost 140 years, the United States government, through the Library of Congress, has honored the field of poetry in terms of its power and presence in our communities by choosing a Poet Laureate (first referred to as Consultant in Poetry) to represent that particular art in our culture. But who were the people they chose as a representation of that very same power and presence, and what did they themselves create?
In these investigations, we’ll take a deep dive into the actual poetry of four pivotal Consultants in Poetry and Poet Laureates in an attempt to discover why their particular art was chosen as a Bellweather for poetry in this country, and how they may have made indelible contributions to the lives of readers and writers across the American landscape.
Poet Laureates for the U.S. series. “Consultants in Poetry.” Today: An American Melancholy: William Stafford. With Jesse Waters. Donations are appreciated.

Conversation Café: The American Miracle at Hall of Philosophy
9 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, July 11 | 212 Gettysburg Ave., Mount Gretna
We explore, through documentary and then dialogue, pivotal moments in the American Experiment.
Recounted in the documentary are “improbable,” unimaginable successes. Notable is the charmed or supernatural protection that surrounded George Washington throughout his life, as well as significant weather shifts that favored the Continental Army at critical battle junctures, among many other forgotten or unknown facts that are the perfect portal to explore as part of America’s 250th!
The unique and longstanding success of the revolution, unlike any other in recorded world history, alone is worthy of examination and celebration. Our history is filled with difficult and/or nearly impossible-to-explain events, without which America simply would not be America. George Washington, in his inaugural speech, described his ‘how?’ as “the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men.”
Come view some little-known happenstances and heroes over coffee and shared conversation. Tom Maiello moderates. Donations are appreciated.

Free | 2-3 p.m., Sunday, July 12 | 410 Springwood Dr., Lebanon
Hope for Hurting Parents was started by Tom and Dena Yohe in 2011, based on their own 10-year journey with their daughter, Renee, who struggled with mental health issues, addiction, and self-injury. They continue to lead free Zoom meetings monthly and send out inspirational emails weekly. They encourage people to start small in-person groups in their own community, which Joe Duke did three years ago.
People seem to find comfort and strength in meeting with others who have gone through similar situations. At support group meetings, we discuss one of 22 topics as outlined in Yohe’s workbook, such as self-care, enabling, worry, anxiety, hope, and guarding your family. The workbook also includes prayers, exercises, websites, and other resources.
Support group sessions are free and open to anyone who is a parent, caregiver, or loved one of someone who struggles with mental health issues, estrangement, addictions, gender dysphoria, incarceration, homelessness, or any other problem that causes you to experience emotional and spiritual turmoil.
Our mission is to give comfort, encouragement, and hope to hurting parents/caregivers on their journey from surviving to thriving.
