Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to a new segment by the Lebanon Valley Food Critics where we will highlight a quick munchie item you can find in the Valley. A place to find such munchies are roadside produce and baked goods stands, local grocery stores, or anywhere else within the Valley. For us here at LVFC, we love to stop and check them out. Who knows, you just might find something amazing.

Today’s morning munchie is a treat for us in the Valley. Van Winkle’s Homemade Opera Fudge is a local treat that will get your taste buds jumping.

These rich, sweet treats can be found in several retail locations stretching across the Lebanon Valley. We seem to always get ours from Laudermilch Meats in Annville or Zweiers in Lebanon. Van Winkle’s are made over on the east end of the City of Lebanon.

They come in several different varieties, ranging from original, to chocolate, peanut butter, strawberry, and our favorite (also the highlight of today), peppermint. These delights are the perfect bite, especially in the winter months. As an after dinner dessert, an afternoon pick-me-up, or a sweet addition to your morning coffee, these opera fudge treats are not to be missed.
