Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley Soft Pretzel Wars. Five entrants from the Valley will compete to be declared the winner of Best Soft Pretzel in The Valley.

We will travel to each entrant and try one regular soft pretzel and one other item from the menu that is made with a soft pretzel.

We continue this war at a spot that has a few locations across the Valley. Today, we stopped by their stand in the Lebanon Farmers Market and visited Foltz’s Pretzels.

Foltz’s Pretzels offers hand rolled soft pretzels, regular and with toppings, as well as pretzel dog, pretzel nuggets, and smokey cheesers. In addition, they do have a lemonade menu.

Our selection for judgement today was the classic soft pretzel and the smokey cheesers.

The classic pretzel comes moderately salted and packed with that Amish buttery flavor. It was on the larger side in size and had a uniform roll and twist. The bite is doughy with a soft crisp on the outer edge.

The smokey cheesers, pretzel wrapped cocktail weenies were lacking the cheese flavor. The bottoms had a dark char from the pan for a crunch in your bite. The thin pretzel wrap was consistent and rich in that buttery flavor.

Did we just have the best soft pretzel in the Valley?

Next up we will travel to our other entrants: Dutchway Markets, Pretzel Hut, and Shuey’s. After which, we will announce our winner.
