Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Even though it already happened, Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in our lives. To help celebrate the day, the LVFC crew set out for a meal together.

Having a gift card to use, we chose the Blue Bird Inn, located in Cornwall, PA. We have been here before as they were included in season one of the Wing Wars. What’s that? Will there be a season two? Hmmm, stay tuned folks!

Anytime eating out on a holiday, and you don’t have reservations, can be dangerous. It can lead to long waits or hangry family members. Thankfully, today our wait was about 15 minutes. Given the busy day, staff was stretched thin, and ticket times were longer than usual.

For today’s meal we got the New England Seafood roll w/fries ($19), Bird is the Word w/sweet potato fires ($16), Hawaiian Pork ($13), and Southwest salad with blackened chicken ($16). We also got an appetizer of Luau Bites ($12).

The luau bites were deep fried pork belly, pineapple slaw and pineapple soy glaze. Very flavorful. A nice sharing plate to open up the taste buds before your meals arrives.

The seafood roll comes with lobster, crab, shrimp sweet corn, aioli, baby spinach on a brioche bun. Two lumps adorn this sandwich. This critic has been in the mood for lobster or seafood roll for a while now. The brioche roll itself always makes a sandwich better. This hit the spot.

The Bird is the Word is a buttermilk fried chicken topped with blue cheese slaw, pickles, hot honey, all served on a brioche roll. The hand battered chicken was big. It will fall apart on you towards the end. The hot honey could have used some more heat, but a very delicious sandwich. See a picture of it at the top.

The other two meals were enjoyed by our parental units, respectively. A special bravo goes to the Hawaiian Pork sandwich. Just like the luau bites, strong on the pineapple flavor and scrumptious.

Our take: The Blue Bird offers three different dining areas. The large deck is great on pleasant summer days. Even though they were busy, the food was great, and the wait wasn’t that long. When they can, they go homemade or hand prepared. They had a special cocktail, Orange Creamsicle, made to perfection and perfect for a nice sunny day.

We give this place 🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓.
