Learn How to Spin on a Spinning Wheel with Margi Wright at Isaac Meier Homestead
$25.00 | 1-3 p.m., Sunday, November 2 | 524 S. College St., Myerstown
Imagine a time when everything you owned, from undergarments to table linens, had to be handmade. There were no shops to buy your clothes from. Animals and plants, sheep wool and flax specifically, were most commonly used during this time to make these items.
This class is the third in our Sheepy Series, where you will learn this age-old process from start to finish. Learn how to clean fleece, prepare it for spinning, spin it on a drop spindle first, and then spin it on a spinning wheel. Learn how to dye this beautiful fiber using natural dyes over an open fire. With these dyed fibers, you can learn to warp a loom and weave items.
Experience the sense of pride, accomplishment, and the tugging of the past by joining us in this endeavour.
In this class, learn how to operate a spinning wheel and turn fiber into yarn.
Here’s what you can expect: You will learn how to set up a spinning wheel and how it functions as well. You will learn how to take fiber that has been prepared and spin it onto the wheel and take it off the bobbin.
Bring your own spinning wheel. We do have two spinning wheels available for rent for $10.00 if needed. Request when booking your ticket for the class. Cost is $25.00 per person, with a maximum of five people. Please send us a message to register!
